Threats to MQM chief: FIR registered against Maulana Aziz

KARACHI: A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against pro-Taliban cleric of Lal Masjid (Red Mosque) Maulana Abdul Aziz on behalf of Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Karachi, ARY News reported.

Police registered the FIR on behalf of MQM’s Arif Khan at Azizabad Police Station against Aziz for extending life threats to the MQM chief Altaf Hussain.

In a video message, Aziz lamented the MQM head for his statement against the mosque wherein he demanded demolishing of the Red Mosque. The cleric said once Altaf Hussain came to Pakistan, he would face the consequences for his ‘hatred’ against the mosque.

In his address from London held on the M.A. Jinnah Road, Altaf Hussain had demanded that Lal Masjid should be demolished and Jamia Hafsa should be closed forthwith.

Mr Hussain asked the government to arrest the mosque’s cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz because he had termed the Peshawar terrorist attack a reaction to the bombardment of Taliban hideouts in tribal areas in order to justify the killings.
