Peshawar: Deaths during anti-encroachment drive spark protest

PESHAWAR: At least three persons were killed in Chowk Ghanta Ghar, Peshawar during anti encroachment operation on Friday, ARY News reported.

According to details, clash erupted between shop keepers and police during the encroachment operation against illegal construction in Chowk Ghanta Ghar. In order to disperse protesters, police started aerial firing and amid the stampede, three people were crushed by the crane.

Eyewitness told that driver of the crane fled away from the scene soon after the incident occurred.

Information Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Mushtaq Ghani talking to ARY News said crane driver was responsible for the killing of three persons.

He told that anti-encroachment drive was being carried out all across the country and notices had already been issued in this regard.

Following the incident, survivors of deceased persons and shop keepers protested and chanted slogans against police and local administration.
