Rescue teams reached the site of the incident and shifted injured persons and the bodies to the hospital.

Rescue in-charge Marri Kamran Shahid said the chairlift, named by locals as ‘Doli’, fell into ravine from 100ft height. The local administration said several notices were served to operators of chairlift to cease its operation, but all those warning landed on deaf ears.

The injured were taken to Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi, said rescue officials, adding that the 10 deceased died on the spot right after the incident.

The lift was installed by locals without approval from the
departments concerned. It was being used to travel from Tret to
Dannah village.

Chairlift accidents are common in mountainous areas of the country, where the lifts are often used to cross rivers.

Last month, Four people were killed when a chairlift plunged into the Indus River near Summer Nullah area in Upper Kohistan.

The people were crossing the river while on way to Tangir area of Gilgit-Baltistan from Shitial, when the string holding the chairlift broke into two pieces, hurling them into the fast flowing river.

According to the locals, chairlift across the Indus is the only means of transporting people between Kohistan and Tangir.
