The 7.6 magnitude quake killed more than 73,000 people, wounded 128,000 and left around 3.5 million homeless — but a decade on the region has yet to recover.
The ravages of the disaster in Azad Kashmir and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province unveiled gradually as on the first day of the quake the collapse of high-rise Margalla Tower in Islamabad mainly attracted the media glare and attention of the federal authorities, which left several people dead and injured.
It was only late in the evening the media reports pouring in from Kashmir and parts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa unveiled the gigantic level of the disaster.
In Muzaffarabad prayers held at the University Ground today at the memorial of the martyrs of the earthquake. The people present at the memorial observed silence for one minute in the respect of the victims of the disaster.
The relatives of the victims of Margalla Tower collapse in Islamabad also reached at the place today to pray in a ceremony for their loved ones who lost their lives on the fateful day.
