Police register case against pro-Qadri protesters in Karachi

According to details, a rally was taken out in favor of Mumtaz Qadri in Karachi. Police tried to prevent the participants from heading forth and arrested some people at Guru Mandar.

As a consequence, the site turned into a battlefield, participants attacked a police van which was transporting the arrested masses to police station and forced release their associates.

The law enforcers retaliated by resorting to aerial fire in order to disperse the rally and arrested a number of miscreants.

SSP Jamshed Quarters confirmed arrest of 35 protesters, saying that Section-144 is in place and no one can be allowed to rally into the red zone. Police framed terrorism charges against those arrested during the rally.

Protesters also attacked police mobile vans to get their accomplices released.

Later, police also released the arrested persons, as most of them were small children of seminaries and elderly people.

An FIR was lodged against 10 suspects, including ST leader Shahid Ghori, Mufti Abid, Khalid Mahmood, under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997 and Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Mumtaz Qadri was arrested for the murder of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer on 4th January 2011.

In Oct 2011, an anti-terrorist court (ATC) in Rawalpindi had sentenced Qadri to death on two counts under section 302 PPC and 7 Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) for killing Taseer, after he confessed to the murder.

The Supreme Court (SC) bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa also maintained the death sentenced handed down to Qadri, rejecting his appeal in Salman Taseer murder case.
