HYDERABAD: A 17 years old FIR registered against wife of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, has surfaced, ARY News reported.
The FIR, which includes other sections including MPO 16, has accused Kulsoom Nawaz of treason and defamation speech against Army.
The FIR was registered in a Hyderabad police station in March 2000. It has also nominated President Mamnoon Hussain and Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Tehmina Daultana.
Kulsoom is a candidate from the PML-N in NA-120 by-election.
Recently, the nomination papers of Kulsoom Nawaz for contesting election on NA-120 were challenged in the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The NA-120 seat, Lahore-III, fell vacant after the Supreme Court of Pakistan disqualified Nawaz Sharif as the premier of the country, and asked ECP to issue a notification removing him as a member of the National Assembly.
The petitioner contended that the country’s top court had disqualified Nawaz Sharif for not being Sadiq (truthful) and Ameen (honest).
He argued in his plea that the party was registered in the name of disqualified PM, hence it’s not legitimate to use the name in the election. He said nomination papers of Kulsoom Nawaz filed with the name of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) should be discarded.
