Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Islamabad Director Mazharul Haq Kakakhel will head the investigation and the team comprises of the representatives of various intelligence agencies.
According to sources the probe has been given 30 days to complete its inquiry into the charges.
The JIT has been formed in the light of the disclosures made by Sarfaraz Merchant, a London based businessman closed to the MQM’s leaders in London.
Merchant had also claimed last month that the party was also receiving funds from the Indian spy agency RAW.
Sarfaraz Merchant recently visited Islamabad and recorded his statement to the FIA and also produced documentary evidence backing to his charges against MQM leaders, sources said.
