Indian skipper Rohit Sharma faces backlash from netizens after he was involved in a run-out of test debutant Mayank Agarwal.

Indian opening batter Mayank Agarwal had a nightmare of a debut as he was involved in a run-out with Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.

So much action took place with a span of a few seconds that even the third-umpire had to watch multiple slow-motion replays to reach a decision.

Mayank was hit on his pads on the 4th ball of the second over being delivered by Vishwa Fernando. Srilankan players appealed for a Leg Before Wicket (LBW), and seeing the fielders busy in appealing, Agarwal decided to sneak a quick single.

But, Rohit Sharma was not prepared to take a quick single and was surprised at watching Mayank racing towards the no striker’s end. Sharma initially tried to run and took a couple of steps towards the other end but bailed out eventually with Mayank stranded between the wickets.

Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella disrupted the bails while still being confused about what had happened.

The eventual call of the delivery as a ‘no-ball’ rubbed salt into Mayank’s wounds. This means that even if Mayank had been legitimately LBW, he would have survived as the delivery has illegal. However, replays showed that even if it was not a no-ball, the LBW appeal would have been turned down as the ball hit Mayank’s bat before hitting his pads.

While some people have criticised Mayank’s hastiness to take a risky single at the initial stage of the game, others have open verbal fires at the Indian skipper for being “lazy”.

However, India leads the 3 match test series against Srilanka with 1-0.
