Ahsan Iqbal serves defamation notice on PTI’s Abrarul Haq

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and singer Abrarul Haq has been served a defamation notice by former interior minister Ahsan Iqbal for harming his reputation during a TV talk show.

Mr. Iqbal filed the defamation suit through Barrister Mujtaba Jamal.

The notice reads: “PTI’s candidate for NA-78 (Narowal II) tried to tarnish Mr. Iqbal’s reputation on a political talk show aired on a private television network.”

“…Iqbal has served as a public representative four times, has taught at universities and has worked as a management consultant,” said the notice.

During a recent political gathering, the singer had also claimed that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader gave Narowal’s stadium contract at Rs 7 billion.

The defamation notice demanded Haq to retract his statements and tender an unconditional apology within 14 days or the plaintiff would request court to process the case.

After successfully leading case against former defence minister Khawaja Asif that led to his disqualification from office in Iqama case, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was looking to get another top PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal disqualified.

It was reported that the PTI decided to pursue the case against Ahsan Iqbal as the former minister also possess an iqama (work permit) for a Madina-based company.

Abrar-ul-Haq, who contested the 2013 general elections against Iqbal in Narowal, was expected to file an application in the Islamabad High Court, however he didn’t go ahead for unexplained reasons.
