The Australian Cricket Team really steps up its game when it plays India in big tournaments. Their top batters didn’t just hit centuries against India in the World Cup; they also played some seriously clever innings that sealed the deal for the Aussies.
With a ton of 137 in 120 balls in the final, Travis Head played the match-winning batting; meanwhile, Alyssa Healy scored 142 in 107 balls to chase 331 runs, the highest successful chase in women’s ODI history. Moreover, her score was the second highest against India in ODIs.
Travis Head’s Knock in Ahmedabad
With an unforgettable 137 against India in Ahmedabad, Travis Head’s innings helped Australia clinch the sixth World Cup title with a convincing six-wicket win.
In the final, Australia successfully chased a challenging target of 241 for victory, overcoming an early setback of 47-3. The left-handed batter was instrumental in this win, scoring his second century of the tournament and guiding his team to victory with seven overs remaining.
Head’s century, laced with 15 fours and four sixes, was the seventh in a World Cup final and third by an Australian after Ricky Ponting (140 not out v India in 2003) and Adam Gilchrist (149 v Sri Lanka in 2007).
Alyssa’s Captain Innings
Alyssa Healy’s match-winning century against India in the Women’s World Cup 2025 marked her first as Australia’s ODI captain. This impressive innings stands as the third-highest by a captain in World Cup history, trailing only Belinda Clark’s 227* in 1997 and Meg Lanning’s 152* in 2017.
With a blazing knock with 21 4’s and 3 sixes, Alyssa Healy’s century was first as Australia’s Captain. With a six in 37.2 overs, she finished the game in style
During the post-match press conference, Alyssa said, “I think I was just trying to contribute. I think it needed somebody to make a hundred to chase down that total. Obviously, you’d probably like two to make hundreds just to make it easy, but somebody needed to, if they got set, to cash in and have a good day.”
