Andrew Garfield confesses his private Instagram account and screen time struggles

Speaking in an interview with Variety on the red carpet, The Amazing Spider-Man star, 40, disclosed that whilst he stays away from publicly posting and following on social media he possesses a private anonymous Instagram account-secretly looking at specialized visual content.

His covert feed does not involve anything of celebrity, and Gossip as Garfield chooses instead for “highly curated” artist projects and craft.

“I mostly use it to look at weird ceramics and lots of Japanese kind of craftspeople,” Garfield revealed.

By keeping the profile completely unlinked to his public identity, the actor browses without public scrutiny or the pressure of maintaining a fan-facing brand.

Garfield on Social Media Addiction and Screen Time

Despite using a private handle, Garfield admitted that he isn’t immune to the addictive design of modern mobile platforms.

The actor shared candid thoughts on how smartphone usage affects his daily life:

High Screen Time Notifications: Garfield noted that receiving weekly screen time alerts is “horrific,” adding, “It’s like, I’ve given all of those hours to nothing.”

Algorithmic Design: He expressed frustration over how social platforms target human psychology: “It’s genuinely enraging because we don’t have as much control over these impulses as we should, and it’s been by design. It’s pretty dark when you look at it.”
