Former ANF inspector arrested on blackmailing charges: sources

PESHAWAR: A former inspector of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) was caught on charges of blackmailing in a joint operation by intelligence agencies officials and anti-corruption wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), ARY News reported.
Sources said the ex-ANF officer Saifur Rehman was involved in blackmailing a man identified as Mudasir. Rehman kept blackmailing Mudasir, a youth counselor, by labeling him as an affiliate of drug smugglers.
During the investigation, Rehman also named his two accomplices who are assistant sub-inspectors. The FIA’s anti-corruption wing decided to approach the ANF for further inquiry.

The FIA had been very active in actions against people involved in blackmailing, harassing using social media and other means of communication.
Last month, the Federal Investigation Agency decided it would launch a crackdown on social media users propagating false information.
The FIA officials said the action would be taken against people using fake accounts to spread false information. They said complaints were also received regarding hacking of accounts of government officials.
The freedom of expression will not be targeted, but no one will be allowed to blackmail anyone under this pretext.
