CHAMAN: Awami National Party (ANP) leader Daud Khan Achakzai narrowly escaped death when armed men shot and injured him in Chaman on Monday morning.

According to security and rescue sources, the ANP leader received two gunshot wounds in the right arm when assailants opened fire on him while he was sleeping at his guest house in Killi Pir Alizai.

He was taken to a Quetta hospital where he is stated to be in stable condition.

The attackers managed to flee the crime scene when the ANP leader’s guards returned fire.

After being informed of the firing incident, a contingent of security forces arrived at the spot and launched a search operation to look for the culprits.

The armed attack comes a day after the country observed mourning day over recent terrorist attacks on election candidates in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ahead of the general elections.

21 people including ANP leader Haroon Bashir Bilour were killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up during a corner meeting in Peshawar’s Yakatoot area on July 10.

Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) candidate Nawabzada Siraj Raisani was among 130 people killed in a suicide attack on an election rally in the Mastung area. Around 150 people were injured in the tragic incident.

Earlier on the same day, a bomb targeted the convoy of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) candidate and former chief minister Akram Khan Durrani in Bannu. He, however, escaped unhurt while four people were killed and 14 others injured in the attack.
