LAHORE: The appointment of Justice (retd.) Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui as Governor of Sindh was on Saturday challenged in Lahore High Court.
The petition was submitted by Barrister Javed Iqbal Chaudhry which states that Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui is in frail health and is not physically fit for the office of the Governor of Sindh.
The petitioner maintained that the Governor is the chief executive of the province, and is imperative that he should be of sound mental and physical to carry on the responsibilities diligently.
The petitioner pleaded to the court to declare the appointment as null and void and issue orders to the competent authority to name a new governor. It also said that Siddiqui has held judicial positions, and so an political position is unconstitutional.
Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui was sworn in as the 30th Governor of Sindh on Friday replacing Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad who held the office for almost fourteen years.
A prominent jurist, Justice (retd) Siddiqui has held top judicial offices during his professional career including the Chief Justice of Pakistan, and was a former presidential candidate.
