The charged mob had subsequently set a factory and a place of worship of the Ahmadi community on fire.

As peace was relatively restored in the town, Rangers, army and police jointly held a flag march.

The army and Rangers were called to the town after police failed to defuse the tension. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah also visited Jhelum on Sunday. Speaking to media on the occasion, he said the law enforcement agencies were fully investigating the incident of torching of a factory.

He condemned the act of making announcements from mosques to provoke people and said such instances should never be allowed.

He underlined that police and rangers timely took an action that saved many precious lives.

Meanwhile, Jhelum DCO Zulfiqar Ghuman has imposed Section 144 prohibiting gathering of five or more people in the district.
