Army supports mainstreaming Fata as per aspirations of tribes: Bajwa

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Bajwa on Sunday visited South Waziristan Agency where he met with troops at forward posts, said a statement issued by Pakistan forces’ media wing, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The army chief was briefed on security situation, including border management, and rehabilitation of temporarily displaced persons, said the statement. He said Army supported the government’s bid to mainstream Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) as per aspirations of local tribes.

Bajwa expressed satisfaction on operational gains, development works and measures for border security management.

He directed to continue focusing on stability operations and socio economic development for enduring peace in the area, said ISPR.

During interactions with troops, the COAS lauded their bravery and commitment which enabled re-establishment of writ of the state. He also appreciated resolve of tribal brethren and the local administration for supporting Army.

“Pakistan Army will continue its efforts while also supporting mainstreaming of Fata by the government as per aspirations of the local tribes,” Director General ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor quoted General Bajwa as saying.
