Asad Umar says he will keep serving the party

KARACHI: Former finance minister Asad Umar on Friday said he wasn’t distressed after relinquishing charge as the finance minister, ARY News reported.

Speaking to media after landing in Karachi, Umar said he would keep visiting Islamabad whenever needed, however, “most of my time will now be spent in Karachi,” said Umar who resigned as finance minister a day ago.

Upon arriving in the city, he received a warm welcome from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers at the airport. In his brief chat, he underlined that he would visit Islamabad to attend assembly sessions.

“I am relaxed and will keep serving the party,” he added.

PTI MNA Asad Umar had announced Thursday that he was stepping down from his post as finance minister.

In a statement on Twitter, Asad Umar broke the news by saying, “As part of a cabinet reshuffle PM desired that I take the energy minister portfolio instead of finance.”

“However, I have obtained his consent to not take any cabinet position. I strongly believe PM Imran Khan is the best hope for Pakistan and inshallah will make a naya pakistan,” the former minister added.

Last month, Prime Minister Imran Khan had decided to review the performances of all federal ministries and cabinet divisions of the governments on quarterly basis, for which a notice was also sent to all federal secretaries from the Prime Minister’s Office.
