'Asim Capri's JIT report marred with discrepancies'

KARACHI: The joint investigation team report of alleged target killers Asim alias Capri and Ishaq alias Bobby who are accused of high profile murders including qawwal Amjad Sabri has been completed.

However, intelligence agencies have raised objection to several discrepancies and gross inaccuracies in the JIT report, and have strongly criticised the performance of law-enforcement agencies for the first time.

The eight-page note of dissent attached to the report has raised objections over contradictions in statements of eye witnesses, crime scene inspectors, and the suspects themselves.

The intelligence agencies also objected that a six-member team was supposed to be formed at the instruction of the Ministry of Interior, but ten people were a part of it which is also a gross violation.

The suspects stated that they used 9mm pistol for the killings, whereas 30-bore shells were found at the site of the incident.

It also stated that a press conference was called by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah before a detailed and satisfactory report had been completed.

Renowned qawwal Amjab Sabri was killed in a brazen gun attack on June 22 near his house in Liaquatabad. Two people were subsequently arrested earlier this month named Asim Capri and Ishaq Bobby.

It was found that both were involved in at least 28 incidents of of terrorism including the firing at a majlis in Nazimabad, attacks on law enforcement officers, and other criminal activities. Both were said to be affiliated with the outlawed Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) Naeem Bukhari group.

SSP Counter-Terrorism Department Raja Umar Khattab had claimed that there was irrefutable evidence that both were the assassins of Sabri.

Khattab had revealed while speaking to ARY News that that Additional IGP CTD had personally supervised high-profile case and examined all evidence, and even Chief Minister was convinced that the evidence was credible and admissible in court.
