Asim Jamil committed suicide due to depression, confirms elder brother

TALUMBA: Maulana Yousaf Jamil, the elder son of renowned religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil, has confirmed that his brother, Asim Jamil committed suicide as he was suffering from severe depression.

Asim Jamil, son of renowned scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil, passed away in Punjab’s Talamba on Sunday evening. Earlier it was claimed that he was assassinated but Tariq Jamil took to social media X to confirm that it was an ‘accidental death.’

In the video message, Maulana Yousaf Jamil disclosed that his brother had been battling severe depression since childhood and was receiving electric shocks as part of treatment.

He mentioned that despite continuous efforts to help Asim Jamil, his mental health deteriorated over the last six months.

Maulana Yousaf Jamil further said his brother committed suicide by snatching a gun from the security guard as he was alone at home on Sunday.

He ruled out the impression of any enmity because the death of his brother.

Meanwhile, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Multan Sohail Chaudhary said that Maulana Asim Jamil was shot in the chest.

In the CCTV footage, the son of a religious scholar can be seen shooting himself in the chest, he added. RPO Multan further said that the deceased was in the gymnasium at the time of his death.
