Punjab government has intensified crackdown against militants, terror elements and banned organisations in the recent months, however, a fresh momentum has been injected into these operations following the army chief’s demand to implement an unbiased National Action Plan (NAP) in the country

During the search operation, police and officials of the law enforcement agencies arrested some 23 suspected in the walled city of Lahore on late Friday.

They said all the arrests were made in Iqbal Town, Saddar and Cantt divisions.

On the other hand, in Faisalabad police conducted search operations targeting homes and headquarters of the provincial representation of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and apprehended 18 persons upon recovering weapons.

Informed sources said that the residences of PML-N’s Rana Israr, Mohsin Saleem and Parvez Kammo were raided during the latest search rounds in varying areas of Faisalabad.

The government of Punjab was also planning the deployment of paramilitary Rangers across the province in specific areas to help local law enforcement and civil leadership to achieve improved results while tackling militants.

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah confirmed late on Friday that a requisition was sent to the provincial chief minister Shahbaz Sharif to approve Rangers deployment in Punjab after Sindh, primarily for two months.
