ATC directs for concluding arguments in Imran Farooq Murder case

ISLAMABAD: Khalid Shamim, one of the prime accused in Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Imran Farooq’s murder case on Friday submitted documents in his defense in the anti terrorism court.

ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjumand heard the Imran Farooq murder case in Islamabad.

The judge after submission of documents in the court by Khalid Shamim adjourned the case proceedings till May 14.

The ATC has directed the parties to present their concluding arguments into the matter on May 14 hearing.

In the month of April, Khalid Shamim and Mohsin Ali backtracked on their confessional statements recorded before a magistrate in Imran Farooq’s murder case.

The ATC had given the accused a questionnaire to record their statements under section 342, responses of which were submitted in the court today by the defence lawyers on behalf of their clients.

Khalid Shamim alleged that he was tortured before being presented in front of the magistrate to record the statement.

He further alleged that the magistrate prepared the statement as the investigating officer dictated him, and that he had not given any such statement.

The second accused, Mohsin Ali, said he had given no statement in front of the magistrate at all. He claimed that he was severely tortured but he had refused from speaking up.

“I complained to the magistrate about this behaviour, but he just signed on a statement prepared beforehand and stamped it as being my statement”, he alleged.

The two are facing the charges of killing Dr Farooq, who was murdered in London near his residence in September 2010.
