ATC rejects bail plea of Faisal Raza Abidi

ISLAMABAD: An Anti Terrorism Court on Monday rejected bail plea of former senator, Faisal Raza Abidi, who is currently facing incarceration in the contempt of court case.

The court turned down the application for Abidi’s release after hearing arguments from his counsel in the case.

Abidi on Oct 20 was sent to Adiala jail on judicial remand in a contempt of court charges he is facing. The orders for a judicial remand were issued by a senior civil judge during the hearing.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) produced Abidi, a former Pakistan People’s Party leader, before Senior Civil Judge Amir Aziz and sought his three-day physical remand in order to complete investigation into the case.

Abidi’s counsel maintained that his client was not a terrorist but a former senator, engineer and a respectable citizen. Three cases were registered against Faisal Raza over a single allegation, he added.

Faisal Raza Abidi, was arrested from outside the Supreme Court premises in a contempt of court case on Oct 10.

The former parliamentarian was moved to Secretariat Police Station, Islamabad. He was taken into custody after his appearance in the case hearing at the Supreme Court the same day.

During the hearing, the apex court sought a written reply from the ex-senator in the contempt case he is facing. Abidi requested the court to delay the hearing saying his counsel was out of the country to perform Umrah.

On Sep 21, the capital police had registered a case against former senator Faisal Raza Abidi for using derogatory and defamatory language against the chief justice.
