Auditor General briefs PAC over pile up of pending audit in state entities

ISLAMABAD: Auditor General of Pakistan in a briefing to Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday said that the IMF has demanded an early tackling of the pending audit paras of the institutions and ministries.

“The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed concern over pending financial audit paras of the state institutions,” AGP Ajmal Gondal told the Parliament’s public accounts committee session chaired by Junaid Akbar MNA.

Auditor General disclosed that around five to six lac audit paras of various ministries and institutions have been in pending.

Ajmal Gondal said that the Chief Internal Accountant didn’t appoint despite the Parliament’s orders. “Financial audit system not working properly owing to non-implementation of the rules,” AGP said.

AGP pointed out that the performance audit of the ministries and institutions has been equal to none. “The institutions secretaries, chief financial officers not clearing the financial audit”.

AGP said that only 15 ministries have Chief Financial Officers, while no Chief Internal Accountant exists in any institution. “The internal audit system not existing in the state institutions,” auditor general said.

He said the number of pending audit paras with the PAC has reached above 30,000. AGP said the failure in appointment of the chief internal accountant has been non-compliance of the Parliament’s orders.

The PAC summoned details from the ministries and the institutions within one month.
