Avengers: Doomsday is being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, with Robert Downey Jr.’s casting as Doctor Doom marking a bold pivot from the previously planned Kang storyline.
With Marvel emphasising the importance of accuracy in character design after showcasing Galactus in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the faithful look of Doctor Doom is expected to reassure fans that the studio aims to finally get the character right.
Although Marvel is known for guarding its secrets until closer to release, the early promotional material underlines just how central Doctor Doom will be to Avengers: Doomsday. Robert Downey Jr. has reportedly immersed himself in Doom-related comics to prepare for the role, signalling the seriousness of his MCU return.
With over a year until Avengers: Doomsday reaches cinemas, fans remain eager for an official live-action reveal of Robert Downey Jr. in costume. For now, the first look at Doctor Doom sets the stage for what is expected to be a defining chapter in the Marvel saga when Avengers: Doomsday arrives next winter.
