Babar Azam becomes joint fastest player to score 1,000 runs

PERTH: Young right-hand batsman Babar Azam has become the joint fastest player to score 1,000 runs in One-Day International (ODI) cricket.
He accomplished this milestone with his 47 not out against Australia in Perth today, the 21st innings of his career. This record was first set 37 years ago by West Indian great Sir Vivian Richards in 1980.

With this record, he has joined four great players of cricket: Richards, England pair Kevin Pietersen and Jonathan Trott and South Africa’s Quinton de Kock.

The 22-year-old missed the opportunity to break the record when he entered the ongoing ODI series in Australia needing 114 runs in the first two matches to reach 1,000 runs in 20 innings. However, he ended up scoring just 33 and 34 runs in the opening two games.
