Balochistan mega corruption scandal: NAB accepts Raisani’s bargain plea of Rs2 bn

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has reportedly accepted Rs two billion bargain deal of former finance secretary Balochistan Mushtaq Ahmed Raisani and his front man Sohail Majeed in Balochistan’s mega corruption scandal on Wednesday.

The decision was likely to pave the way for Raisani’s release from custody.

An executive board meeting of NAB presided over by Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, accepted Raisani’s bargain plea.

The former finance secretary Balochistan hit the headlines in May this year when NAB itself seized over Rs730 million hard cash from his house in Quetta hours after he was taken into custody.

NAB officials raided his house and recovered bundles of notes in local and foreign currency. The bundles of notes – from Pakistani rupee to US dollar – were stuffed in 14 large bags.

Moreover, prize bonds, a large quantity of gold and savings certificates were also recovered during the raid.

It is important to mention here that recovered amount was so huge that the officials had to bring in counting machines.

Raisani was also found to be owning as many as a dozen houses in Karachi alone during the investigation.
