BCCI asks ICC not to hold match between Pakistan, India

NEW DELHI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) not to place India in the same group with Pakistan in any tournament.

The decision has been taken in the backdrop of deteriorating relations between both the countries after Indian forces started massacring innocent and unarmed citizens of held Kashmir which was followed by Uri base attack and cross-border firing.

The Indian government has vowed to isolate Pakistan in the world post tense bilateral ties.

“Keeping in mind that the government has adopted a new strategy to isolate Pakistan and in view of the public sentiment in the country, we request ICC not to put India and Pakistan in the same pool of the multi-nation tournaments,” said President BCCI Anurag Thakur.

He, however, said if the two countries reach the semi-finals and have to clash at that time, it is another situation which cannot be avoided.

Champions Trophy is the next multi-nation tournament which will be held around seven months from now.

Pakistan and India are usually put in the same group viewing their traditional rivalry. This should also be noted that India has already refused to play any bilateral tournament with Pakistan.
