Beware! jail term warning for use of animals in election drive

According to ARY News, the Wild Life Department has warned legal action against the candidates under relevant laws who will use animals for electioneering.

Director General Wild Life Punjab Khalid Ayaz Khan has warned that those violated the law could face two years jail term and 15000 rupees fine for the offence.

The official has also said that all contesting candidates having allotted wild animals as election symbols by the election authorities, will be issued warning notices to avoid the violation.

The violation of the law could also endanger the political careers of the aspiring candidates, the official said.

It is pertinent to mention here that ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidates are contesting with the election symbol of ‘Lion’. The lion was also the party’s election symbol in previous general elections.

The candidates and leaders of PML-N during their election drive brought a lion at a public rally, procession or a press conference much torment to the animals.
