Bilawal sees 'another Altaf Hussain' in Imran Khan

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday said that it was not his party but Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) which compromised on its position while voting for “PPP-backed candidates” during election for chairman and deputy chairman slots in Senate, ARY News reported.

“PPP does not believe in politics of exclusivity,  we cooperate with other parties in parliament, Imran Khan compromised on his position (of not partnering with PPP or PML-N), not us,” said Bilawal while speaking to ARY News’ anchor Waseem Badami.

The Senate on March 12 elected opposition-backed candidates Sadiq Sanjrani as chairman and Saleem Mandviwalla as deputy chairman. Sanjrani, an independent senator, and PPP’s Mandviwalla were backed by PPP, PTI and other opposition parties. The election surprised many as PML-N was the majority party in the upper house and still they and their allies couldn’t get their men elected on top slots in the house.

About why his party opted for Sanjrani over former chairman and party stalwart Raza Rabbani despite the fact that PML-N too had announced to vote for him, Bilawal said that the party had already decided to expose the rift within PML-N.

“They (PML-N) wouldn’t have been exposed and I had told Raza Rabbani, well before this election, that I want him to play a bigger role in Karachi ahead of upcoming general elections, something he couldn’t do while serving as Senate chairman,” explained Bilawal.

‘Imran Khan, Altaf Hussain two sides of same coin’

Answering a question about Imran Khan’s entry in Karachi’s politics, Bilawal compared PTI chief Imran Khan with MQM founder Altaf Hussain by saying that both of them believe in “politics of hatred” and chaos.

“We have experienced Altaf Hussain’s politics, everyone knows how his politics of militancy and hatred damaged Karachi and we don’t want another Altaf Hussain, and his (Imran Khan) politics of hatred, U-turns, controversial statements are similar to Altaf Hussain,” said Bilawal.

About what he thinks about MQM-Pakistan after Altaf Hussain, Bilawal maintained that whatever Altaf Hussain did was with the help of these people (who are running MQM-Pakistan today) and if one hates Altaf, then he should hate the current leaders of MQM-Pakistan.

“Altaf Hussain is in London, he didn’t do everything alone, if we detest him, we should detest them (MQM-P leaders) too,” said the PPP chairman.

He added that Karachi will see a real wave of change after this year’s general elections and PPP will steer the city of lights towards progress and prosperity.
