Blue light from your phone can permanently damage your eyes: Study

SPAIN: The blue light being transmitted from your smart phones can prove to be unbelievably toxic for your eyes.

According to a study conducted by the University of Toledo, the blue light emitting from your phone can be the root cause of your diminishing eyesight.

It is termed as one of the leading causes of vision loss in the United States.

A professor at the University said that “It’s no secret that blue light harms our vision by damaging the eye’s retina.” 

“Retinal, which is produced by the eye, is triggered by blue light and causes various chemical reactions. These reactions within the eye can be poisonous to the photoreceptor cell molecules rendering them damaged.When these photoreceptor cells die, there’s no regeneration.” she added.

The study further found that the retinal-generated toxicity by blue light is universal. It can kill any cell type.

Though in a statement on his university website, made it clear that they had conducted the experiment on human eyes “We caution the public that our study does not show that light from mobile devises or other digital screens cause blindness.”

It continued saying, “Whether blue light from mobile devises and digital screens induces similar toxicity levels is an unanswered question and is currently under investigation.”

According to reports, as many as 11 million people in the US currently have some form of age-related macular degeneration. This number is expected to reach 22 million by 2050.

Worldwide, they expect it to affect almost 288 million people by 2040.
