Body of teenager drowned after jumping in Jhelum river for bet recovered

ABBOTTABAD: Police have recovered the body of a teenaged boy who died after jumping in the Jhelum river for a bet, ARY News reported.

19-year-old Ali Abrar was swept away by the gushing stream after being dared by his friends to swim across the river for Rs15,000 cash and a mobile phone in return for his daring stint.

According to the police, his body was recovered from the river near Bnahal Patan area.

Abrar along with his five friends had arrived at Kohala bridge from Gujarat on a picnic. His friends dared him to swim across the river, promising Rs15000 and mobile phone in exchange, the police said.

As he jumped in the river, he was swept away, they added.

Bakaut police had also arrested his friends – Usama, Talha, Zeeshan, Shoib, and Rahat – and registered a case against them under Section 322 of the CrPC on his father’s complaint.

Police will hand over the dead body of the victim to his legal heirs after completing legal formalities.
