Brother of teenage girl burnt alive for freewill marriage arrested

Anees Bhatti was arrested for the brutal murder of his 17-year-old sister, Zeenat Bibi who was set on fire for marrying the man of her own choice. The decision had upset her family members who burnt her to death by sprinkling kerosene on her.

Police had arrested her mother and brother-in-law on the day of the incident. However, Anees had absconded after the incident but has now been arrested from Nishtar Colony.

Anees refused to confess to the crime or accept guilt in initial interrogations. He said that he was innocent and Zeenat had been killed solely by their mother.

The Police said that further investigations in the case are underway,  whereas efforts are being made to arrest absconder Mansoor as well.
