Catherine O’Hara, the 71-year-old former Schitt’s Creek star, died “after a brief illness,” according to her representative, who spoke to People shortly after the news surfaced.

The woman, identified as the Home Alone actress, was subsequently rushed to a hospital in serious condition. According to LAFD dispatch records, the individual at the address had been experiencing respiratory problems.
The Canadian actress and comedian was widely recognised for her iconic roles in Schitt’s Creek, Home Alone, Beetlejuice and its sequel Beetlejuice, and most recently The Studio opposite Seth Rogen.
Many of her friends and coworkers expressed shock and devastation at the news of her unexpected passing, sharing profound tributes filled with grief. Macaulay Culkin, who played her on-screen son in the beloved Christmas film Home Alone, shared a touching Instagram post: “Mama. I thought we had time,” he wrote. “I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you, but I had so much more to say. I love you. I’ll see you later.”
Dan Levy, her Schitt’s Creek co-star who also played her on-screen son, posted a heartfelt note on Instagram: “What a gift to have gotten to dance in the warm glow of Catherine O’Hara’s brilliance for all those years. Having spent over fifty years collaborating with my dad, Catherine was extended family before she ever played my family. It’s hard to imagine a world without her in it. I will cherish every funny memory I was fortunate enough to make with her.”
Notably, the charismatic, Emmy-winning actress was 71 years old.
