LAHORE: An anti-corruption court in Lahore on Tuesday granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Pervaiz Elahi in a case pertaining to illegal recruitments in the Punjab Assembly, ARY News reported.
Special Judge Ali Raza Awan granted the former Punjab chief minister post-arrest bail against surety bonds worth Rs1 million.
During the hearing, Special Prosecutor Abdul Samad argued that Elahi was directly guilty in the case and opposed his bail.
Elahi is still in Lahore jail and is yet to be released.
Another case lodged against Elahi
Meanwhile, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) today lodged another money laundering case against Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, and his son Moonis Elahi.

According to sources familiar with the matter, both individuals are accused of concealing vast sums of money in five Panamanian companies.
Shujaat meets Elahi
Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, the head of the PML-Q, in a jail visit to Pervaiz Elahi, President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), urged him to return back to his previous party.
According to reliable sources, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain along with his son, Salik Hussain, held a special meeting with Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in Camp Jail, Lahore, which was reportedly lasted for an hour.
During the meeting, Chaudhry Shujaat and his son expressed their concern for Pervaiz Elahi’s well-being and inquired about his health and asked him to return to his previous party for the improvement of political matters in the country.
Sources mentioned that Pervaiz Elahi denies any intentions of quitting the PTI and expressed his commitment to the party.
The illegal recruitment case
According to the details provided by an ACE spokesperson, Elahi made 12 illegal recruitments in Punjab Assembly on grade 17 positions.
The candidates were recruited in the provincial assembly by altering the records. “The illegal recruitments were made through fake testing services,” said the spokesperson.
