LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr Saqib Nisar on Friday said neither he interfered in any other’s domain, nor did he have any such intentions, ARY News reported.

While addressing a farewell dinner held in his honour by the Lahore High Court Bar Association, he said that the purpose of judicial activism was not to strip anyone of its powers.

“I laid the foundations of judicial activism with good intentions. I might have been strict at times, but it was only for the rule of law,” the CJP said .

The top judge said public’s respect for the judiciary had diminished because swift justice was not being dispensed. He asked judges to perform their duties by considering it a service to the nation rather than a job.

“It is not for the high court to hear cases of registration of an FIR. A high court is supposed to hear cases of high level,” he said while pointing to the weaknesses of judiciary system.

The CJP said only two references remained pending in the Supreme Judicial Council today. “We are ourselves conducting our accountability, hopefully, bar councils will also do the same.”

He said he would not let references become noose around judges’ neck.

The Chief Justice also the nation was going to get a ‘big gift’ in form of police reforms on January 14.
