RAWALPINDI: In-charge Anti-Polio Campaign Chaudary Muhammad Hussain Wednesday said that over 2,500 children coming from outside the city had been administered the polio drops at bus terminals in Rawalpindi.
“To eliminate the polio virus completely, High Risk Mobile Units (HRMU) have been set up at 63 entry and exit points of the metropolis comprising 126 polio workers and nine supervisors that are administering polio drops to kids up to five years,” Chaudary Muhammad Hussain said talking to state news agency.
He said as a large number of people daily come from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir and presence of polio virus in city environmental samples led the department to set up centers at all bus terminals to administer drops to those who entered the city from outside.
The in-charge anti-polio campaign informed that on its second day, “We have administered the polio drops to 2,500 children.”

He said HRMU would administer anti-polio drops to children at all bus terminals for three months.
In February this year, a nine-day anti-polio campaign to eradicate the crippling disease of polio was launched in 106 Union Councils (UCs) of Karachi.
During the campaign more than 1.5 million children of aged up to five years were administered anti-polio vaccine while for the first time injections of polio vaccine were also given to over 1.48 million children.
Meanwhile, a special three-day anti-polio drive was also in progress in 21 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
