Chinese firm to build schools in Balochistan by using new technology

QUETTA: A Chinese company, CMEC will build new educational institutes in Gwadar and Ziarat, in a short span of time, by using prefabrication technology.

According to the details, CMEC General Manager Li Kan on Tuesday called on Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan and agreed to build new schools in Gwadar and Ziarat by using prefabrication technology under a public-private partnership programme.

Briefing the chief minister, Li Kan said that his company had expertise in constructing homes and buildings via prefabrication technology in a short span of time. He said that they have also experience in agriculture production through minimum use of water.

Li Kan said, “Because of shortage of water, Balochistan can shift its agriculture sector to modern technology and the CMEC is ready to help the provincial government in this sector under the private-public partnership programme.”

He also offered to train students of the Lasbela University in modern agriculture techniques and said that they would award students scholarships for higher studies in China.

Earlier, the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF), on January 19, had released a report highlighting dismal condition of schools in different parts of the country and growing illiteracy in its wake.

The report had relayed that the province of Punjab would require 35,000 schools in the next 20 years whereas Sindh will need 25,000, Khyber Pakhtonkhwa 14,000 and Balochistan 7,200.
