ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has urged the provincial governments to support the drive against illegal water hydrants.

Talking to Federal Minister for Water Resources Muhammad Faisal Vawda, who called him at his chamber on Monday, Mian Saqib Nisar stressed the need for action against illegal water hydrants and urged the provincial governments to cooperate in actions against corruption and water theft.

The CJP appreciated the measures taken by the federal water ministry about water resources and asked the provincial governments to support the minister to achieve the goals.

Viewing the security threats faced by Vawda, the CJP Nisar directed the law enforcement agencies to provide adequate security to the minister.

Earlier in the day, the minister for water resources had said that water theft in Sindh will not be tolerated at any cost, as some landlords and politicians were using illegal means to irrigate their agricultural lands.

He had said he would not succumb to any pressure on pretext of 18th Constitutional amendment.

“Construction of the dams is essential for the survival, as water reservoirs are becoming dry, ending with the passage of every single day,” said Vawda, adding that delay in this regard would cause loss of billions to the economy, which was already passing through toughest time of the history.

The minister had said the situation of water resources would have been different, if the governments in the past had done ‘something’.
