LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday visited the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal here on 140th birth anniversary of the national poet to pay him homage.
The chief minister laid a floral wreath at Iqbal’s grave and offered Fateha, besides recording his impression in the visitor’s book.
Talking to media afterwards, Shehbaz underlined that the corruption and partial accountability have been impeding the development of the country. “These are two biggest obstacles to the development,” he asserted.
“Iqbal’s poetry and ideas still serve as guiding principles in the present time,” he further said.
Laying emphasis on anti-corruption measures, he called on the public representatives to assess their due role against corruption till now.
Shehbaz said the country is plunging into an economic instability despite progressive ideas and thought of the great poet. “The representatives are setting aside Iqbal’s ideas,” he added.
Separately, Governor Punjab Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana also visited the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal. He offered Fateha and laid floral wreath at the grave of the great poet.
