Court acquits all accused in Sana Cheema murder case

GUJRAT: A district and sessions court here on Friday acquitted all the accused in the murder case of a Pakistani-Italian woman, Sana Cheema who was allegedly strangled to death by her relatives in the name of honour, ARY News reported.

Judge Amir Mukhtar Gondal announced this verdict after hearing arguments from both the defence and prosecution sides.

The court exonerated the woman’s father Ghulam Mustafa Cheema, uncle Mazhar Cheema and brother Adnan of murder charges on the benefit of doubt.

Sana Cheema was allegedly strangled to death by her father, uncle and brother on April 18, 2018.

Last year in April, police had arrested three suspects, including the victim’s father and brother for their alleged involvement in the crime.

26-year-old Sana Cheema reportedly expressed a desire to marry a man of her choice in Italy, which enraged her family members who wanted to marry her off to their relative.

The infuriated family members murdered her and subsequently, buried her body quietly to hush up the matter, a police official had said.
