Court awards seven years sentence to DEO in illegal recruitment case

KARACHI: An accountability court awarded seven year jail term and 48.5 mln rupees fine to a District Education Officer (DEO) of Sindh in a corruption reference, ARY News reported on Saturday.

The accountability judge handed seven years imprisonment to DEO Sajan Mallah after corruption charges filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) were proved against him.

The accountability watchdog had filed a reference against DEO Sajan Mallah over fake recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff in the education department of Sindh.

The court disqualified the convict for 10 years to hold any government office.

According to the NAB prosecutor the DEO had made fake recruitment on 140 vacancies in the education department.

The bureau had approved the inquiry against the education department officer in 2015.

Court acquits accused in Civil Hospital drugs reference 

An accountability court in Karachi, acquitted six accused including former superintendent of the Civil Hospital in a corruption reference about irregularities in purchase of medicines in the hospital.

The court announced the verdict after nine years of filing of the reference by the National Accountability Bureau.

The judge acquitted Mirza Ali Raza, Ismail, Nazir, Adnan and others charged in the reference.

According to the lawyer, the bureau failed to provide incriminating evidence against the accused.
