Court sends Saleem Shahzad to jail on judicial remand

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Saleem Shahzad was sent to jail by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday, ARY News reported.

The ATC judge ordered the jail officials to produce Shahzad on February 18 in the court.

Shahzad, who had been living in London since 1992, was arrested from Karachi airport after his return to Pakistan yesterday.

The MQM leader pleaded to the court that he voluntarily returned to Pakistan. He said he is suffering from liver cancer and requested for bail.

The Judge asked him didn’t you know about the protective bail. Shahzad responded that he was unaware about such a law.

The police also submitted the detail of the items taken in custody from Saleem Shahzad when he was arrested.

The judge issued orders on a plea for ‘B’ Class in jail. The court also ordered jail officials for medical check up of Saleem Shahzad and to provide him the required medical facilities.

A bail application was also submitted before the court and a bail hearing has been scheduled for Feb 11.
