Accountability court to announce verdict in Avenfield case on July 6

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court on Tuesday reserved its verdict in Avenfield reference filed against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif and his family, ARY News reported.

The court hearing the reference against the former premier Nawaz Sharif and his family said it will announce the verdict on July 6.

The verdict was reserved after defence counsel Amjad Pervaiz concluded his arguments in the case.

The Avenfield reference is among the four corruption references filed against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his three children and former finance minister Ishaq Dar in compliance with July 2017 Supreme Court verdict in the Panama Papers case.

On July 28, the apex court had disqualified then PM Nawaz Sharif in a unanimous verdict in the Panama case, thus cutting short his third stint in power.

The court had directed the authorities to launch inquiries over corruption allegations against the Sharif family members.

Subsequently, at least three references, were filed against Sharifs, pertaining to the Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Hill Metal Establishment, offshore companies including Flagship Investment Ltd, and Avenfield properties of London.

Nawaz and sons Hussain and Hasan are accused in all three references whereas his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Capt. Safdar are accused in the Avenfield reference only.
