Daniel Radcliffe has admitted to never feeling very cool while playing the boy wizard Harry Potter.
Cast at the age of 11, the iconic role took up a huge chunk of the young actor’s life as he made eight movies over the course of ten years.
Since the last film in the series – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 – Daniel has gone on to enjoy success in projects such as Swiss Army Man, Kill Your Darlings and Imperium.
While appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Daniel said he’d never really looked into the world of Harry Potter memes – before the host gladly introduced him to a couple.
“I don’t seek them out,” Radcliffe responded when Fallon asked him whether he had ever thought a meme of himself was pretty funny.
“I feel like I should be educated.”
The actor was pleasantly surprised by some of the material, so much so that he revealed his slight insecurities over the role when he was younger.
“I never as a kid – you know when you’re just insecure at that age – I never felt cool at any point playing that character.
“And sort of these things go like ‘No!’… people thought that was pretty cool! It’s nice, yeah.”
Fallon presented him with a few placards of notable Harry Potter memes, starting with “Harry Pugger,” showing a pug in the wizard character’s signature round glasses and robes.
“What’s not to like?” It’s got a pun, a cute dog, it’s great,” Radcliffe said.
The actor also loved a video of a fan dressed as Emma Watson’s character Hermione Granger dancing. The video went viral earlier this year, and it seems Radcliffe is a fan, too.
“That is great. We need to remake the films as musicals,” he joked.
Radcliffe appeared to promote his new Broadway play, The Lifespan of a Fact, starring Bobby Cannavale and Cherry Jones opening October 18 in New York.
