The train carrying both Pakistani and Indian passengers was earlier stopped at Wagah as Indian officials informed their Pakistani counterparts about disruptive farmers’ protest across the border, through a fax message.

The passengers – both Pakistani and Indian – were taken off the train as it reached Wagah.

Initially the Indian authorities had hinted that the Indian passengers will be called any time in the day; however the Pakistani nationals will have to wait till Monday, followed by complete suspension of the train.

The train was later called back to Lahore.

Farmers in Indian Punjab have been demanding compensation for destruction of their cotton crop by whitefly and have initiated a ‘Rail roko‘ campaign, said a leading Indian paper, resulting in cancellation of over 20 trains so far.
