Dr. Asim seeks exclusion of his name from ECL in another plea

KARACHI: Former Petroleum Minister Dr. Asim Hussain has made a plea in Sindh High Court (SHC) for exclusion of his name from Exit Control List (ECL) to have treatment abroad, ARY News reported.

A petition seeking removal of Dr. Asim’s name from the ECL was filed by his lawyer heard a bench of the SHC today (Wednesday). The petition states that Dr. Asim is suffering from a severe back ailment and kidney pain, hence his name should be removed from the ECL so he could go abroad for medical treatment.

During the court proceeding, the lawyer of the former petroleum minister pleaded that the medical treatment of the illness was unavailable in the country and a medical report constituted by nine doctors was also submitted in the court.

His counsel apprised the bench that Dr. Asim has got a medical appointment from doctors in London on April 20. The delay in medical treatment could deteriorate his condition, the counsel said.

Federal Interior Ministry, Sindh home department, Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh and Director National Accountability Bureau (NAB) have been nominated in the petition.

On March 29, Dr. Asim was granted bail in two references filed by NAB over corruption charges.

‘THE BIG FISH’

The NAB had said that the former petroleum minister had allegedly misused his powers by getting plots allotted fraudulently, encroaching state land for expansion of Dr. Ziauddin Hospital/ money laundering, kickbacks, illegal gains, receiving commission through fertiliser cartel for illegal curtailment of gas for exploitative price and defrauding people in the name of charity hospital.

The NAB had alleged that he had deprived public exchequer of Rs 462 billion.
