‘Economic terrorism’ to be included in Anti Terrorism Act: Farogh Naseem

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Law, Farogh Naseem, has said an Anti Terrorism Act will soon have a section of Economic Terrorism [to incorporate financial corruption in the law], ARY News reported Wednesday.

Speaking in the ARY News programme ‘The Reporters’, Naseem said Prime Minister Imran Khan had embarked on a mission to rid the country of corruption.

He explained that new amnesty scheme wasn’t meant to increase taxes. “An action will be taken after introduction of new amnesty scheme and there will be no chance for the corrupt.”

He highlighted that responsibilities of the media were going to be increased after new amnesty scheme was introduced. Deliberations are underway whether who can benefit from the amnesty scheme, he added.

Answering a question, Farogh Naseem said a constitutional amendment could take Pakistan towards a presidential system from a parliamentary one. If people ask for something then nobody can stop them from getting it, he stated.

He said the constitutional value of a referendum was greater than the parliament.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary had on Sunday expressed the hope that the money looted by corrupt politicians would be brought back from abroad.

“The corruption has led to inflation, falling exchange rate of Pakistani rupee, and all sorts of issues faced by Pakistanis abroad,” Fawad Chaudhary said during a presser.

He said the Sharif family introduced the Economic Reform Act in 1992 to keep the source of capital hidden. Chaudhry said former president Asif Ali Zardari set up fake bank accounts in Sindh.
