ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to hold by-elections in four national and Punjab assemblies’ constituencies on October 09, ARY NEWS reported.
The commission announced that polling in NA-157 Multan, PP-139 Sheikhupura, PP-241 Bahawalnagar and PP-209 Khanewal will be held on October 09.
Moreover, the secretary ECP has been directed to seek order from the Islamabad High Court regarding decision on by-polls in nine constituencies of the National Assembly.
“The high court while taking notice of the media reports has made it clear that only the membership of the respondent was restored,” it said while referring to the IHC decision to restore National Assembly membership of PTI lawmaker Shakoor Shad.
The election commission has also sought a report from the Sindh government for holding second phase of local government elections in the Sindh province.
On September 09, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) postponed the scheduled by-elections in 13 constitutions.
The decision was taken by the ECP in a high-level session chaired by chief election commissioner (CEC) Sultan Sikandar Raja regarding the by-elections.
It has been decided that the by-polls scheduled for September 11, September 25 and October 2 will be postponed and the new dates will be announced soon. The election commission said that the by-poll was deferred due to the devastating rains and floods.
The decision was however opposed by parties across the political divide, blaming each other for running away from the contest.
