KARACHI: Police has claimed killing of eight terrorists in an encounter in Karachi on Tuesday night, ARY News reported.
SSP Malir Rao Anwar has told media that police carried out a raid on a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the area.
Anwar stated that the terrorists opened fire at policemen during the raid. An exchange of fire ensued between the law enforcers and terrorists in which eight attackers were killed, the police official said.
He said that Gul Zaman, a commander of a banned outfit and a native of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district, was among the militants killed in the shootout.
The police officer claimed that a 16-year old suicide attacker, was also killed in the police firing.
He said that a laptop bomb was also recovered in the raid.
The SSP also claimed that the slain terrorists had links with Afghanistan. He said that several Afghans have been involved in terrorism activities in the country.
“The terrorists are trying to harm Pakistan. We will not let them succeed in their mission,” the SSP added.
