13 selfies capture victims a few moments before their death

We take a look at selfies taken by victims who were dead shortly after snapping it.

1 – The fatal stunt



A teenage girl plunged 30 feet to her death as she climbed onto a railway bridge to take a selfie. She was identified as Xenia Ignatyeva who fell and was hit by 1,500 volts as she was electrocuted when she tried to grab live wires.


2 – Death on wheels

Ramon Gonzalez was a rapper from Puerto Rico. Jadiel was going for a ride on his motorcycle and snapped a selfie. Moments later, Jadiel “lost control of his motorcycle and ended up in the path of an oncoming vehicle.” He was moved to a hospital in a critical condition and he died on May 10, 2014.


3 – Romanian teenager meets deadly fate

In May 2015, a Romanian teenager burst into flames after accidentally touching a live wire while attempting to take the “ultimate selfie” on the roof of a train. She was identified as Anna Ursu, 18.
She with a friend went to a train station in the town of Iasi to take a “special selfie”. As she lay on top of a train and stuck one of her legs in the air, an electrical field surrounding the overhead cables sent 27,000 volts zapping through her body, causing her to burst into flames.



4- Monster river gobbles a girl 

Karen Hernández was just thirteen when she was standing along the riverbank of the El Tunal River in Mexico. As she went to snap a selfie, Karen drowned after falling into the river and managed to get swept away by the strong currents.


5- The last selfie

Who can forget one of the worst ever plane tragedies. 15-year-old Dutch boy posted picture with mother on board Flight MH17 moments before take-off. The plane got crashed killing all people on board.


6- Driving to death 

Colette Moreno was on the way to the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. Colette snapped a picture of herself and her friend, Ashley Theobald, who was driving the car. Moments later, a lorry appeared and fumes were making Colette cough extensively; as she had suffered from asthma. Ashley knew about her friend’s medical condition, so she attempted to pass the truck, but another truck was coming and she ended up hitting it. Ashley lived through the ordeal, but the bride-to-be did not survive.


7- Criminal Facebook! 

Courtney Sanford was a 32 year-old woman from North Carolina who could not wait until she pulled over to the side of the road to post pictures to her Facebook page. As she was driving down a busy street, Courtney had snapped a picture of herself, and commented that she was listening to the song, Happy by Pharrell Williams and then stated how happy the song made her feel. According to reports, she had posted her selfie to Facebook, stating how ecstatic she was moments before slamming her car into a recycling truck and landing in a ditch. She died moments later.


8- Car bomb

Civilian casualty: Mohammed was hanging out with his friends when he was killed by a car bomb. Student Mohammed Shaar (in red) got together with his friends for a selfie in Beirut in 2012.


9- Couple dies for their sought-after selfie!

In August 2014, a Polish couple died after falling from a cliff in Portugal’s Cabo da Roca, while apparently trying to take selfies with their children near the edge.

The couple’s children, aged 5 and 6, witnessed the fall and were set in the care of Polish diplomats and psychologists.


10- Don’t fun with a gun

Oscar Otero Aguilar accidentally shot himself. A vet’s desire to take ever more impressive selfies accidentally caused his death when he tried to pose with a live gun – and shot himself in the head.


11- The fateful selfie in a plane 

Jenni Rivera took the picture in a plane before it took off. That private jet got crashed and killed them all.


12- Selfie on stairs

Fourteen-year-old Christine Rosello, student in Pasig City, Manila, died after falling down a flight of stairs on the third floor of a school building.

13- Chinese girl die after taking selfie atop roof


Jojo Tsai, a 20 year-old from China took this selfie atop a tall building and uploaded it to her Instagram account just minutes before throwing herself over the edge. Various social media postings hinted that a was a split from her boyfriend was behind it. Before it was termed suicide by some.
